paper dolls

These works consider how individuals are shaped to align with the narrow frameworks of contemporary society. Through the repetition of motifs such as picket fences and dress patterns—symbols of order, compliance, construction and containment—they interrogate the quiet mechanisms of conformity. The merging of body and environment reflects the point at which external expectations are absorbed and become internalised.

Title: Red Pocket

PRIVATE COLLECTION

This work references those brave individuals who push boundaries and societal expectations, expressing individuality either openly or in quieter, more covert ways, as suggested by the red pocket on a school uniform.

Soft Body

SOLD M. Raadsma

This work  rejects ideals that prize firmness, youth, and control, the work stands as an antithesis to this narrow view of the female form. Instead, it affirms softness, fullness, and maturity. It is a celebration of womanhood.

Simplicity

 Acrylic & mixed media on canvas. 1m x 1.5 m 2021

Uncovered

Acrylic & mixed media on canvas. 80cm x 65cm 2021

This work explores the pressure placed on women to be visible, legible, and available for scrutiny. Acts of revealing and exposure reference the ways women’s bodies and identities are examined, judged, and regulated. The work invites viewers to consider what is gained or lost when being seen becomes an expectation rather than a choice.

Torn

Acrylic on canvas. 1m x 1.5m 2021

PRIVATE COLLECTION

This work explores the conflicting societal expectations placed on women—between strength and softness, visibility and restraint, conformity and autonomy. The work reflects the tension of being pulled in opposing directions, where identity is shaped through pressure, contradiction, and compromise. Fracture and disruption become both evidence of this strain and gestures toward resistance.
